30% Chardonnay, 50% Pinot Noir, 20% Pinot Meunier. Disgorged 2011. Dosage 7 g/l. Not very aromatic. But smoky and toasty on the palate. Rich but not particularly zesty. (JH)

(disgorged in November of 2011; LAG5D): Light, bright gold. An explosively perfumed bouquet displays scents of poached pear, iodine, anise and tasty lees. Smells an awful lot like a Dom Perignon. Sappy, penetrating and pure, offering lively orchard fruit and floral flavors and an undercurrent of smoky minerals. Really stains the palate, finishing with superb energy, focus and length. This exotically perfumed Champagne spent 18 years aging on cork, not under a crown cap.

Creamy, developed and tertiary – has something saline about this, which is unusual. Fruit is still intact, and it isn’t too old, just a bit unconventional. (RH)
