Deep vivid red. Musky cherry, ripe dark berries and building garrigue and floral qualities on the fragrant nose. Sappy and energetic in the mouth, offering spice-tinged black raspberry and bitter cherry flavors and a hint of licorice that comes in slowly. Finishes incisive, gently tannic and quite long, displaying a hint of candied flowers and energizing spiciness.

Kirsch, black cherries, dried herbs, and garrigue notes all emerge from the 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, which is medium to full-bodied, silky and seamless on the palate. It's another pure, classic, balanced wine from this great vintage.

The 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape is 70% Grenache, 15% Mourvèdre, 10% Syrah and the rest a bit of Cinsault and Clairette. Aged in a mix of old and new barrels, steel tanks and foudres, it offers hints of balsam-like spice and ripe cherries. It's full-bodied and concentrated but a bit astringent and overly tannic on the finish. Give it a couple of years to settle down before enjoying it over the next decade.

Bright ruby. Smoke-accented cherry, raspberry and potpourri scents show good clarity and spicy lift. Juicy and focused on the palate, offering lively bitter cherry, red berry and floral pastille flavors enlivened by a subtle mineral element. The floral quality carries through a nervy, gently tannic finish that leaves behind a hint of peppery spices.
