Score 98/100 · Drink 2019-2040, Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate, Jul 2023

The 2000 Arbois Pupillin Savagnin Ouillé, or "vieux Savagnin," as they refer to it, is a wine with extended élevage and bottled in small bottles with a yellow wax seal. This now has the bottling date on the label, on the right side of it, and this was a bottling from 16, so bottled after 16 years in barrel. As is often the case, I find that this bottling has a lot of flor effect and notes reminiscent of curry, nuts and iodine. There is a whiff of volatility here and lots of concentration through evaporation in the barrel, pungent, deep and long, very persistent and powerful in the style of a mini Vin Jaune. 2000 was officially Pierre's last vintage.
