The 2021 Chablis La Forêt 1er Cru, which sees nine months in barrel, takes time to gather itself on the nose but reveals attractive yellow fruit, crushed limestone scents and just a touch of sea spray. The well-balanced palate is taut and fresh with crisp acidity, fine grip and plenty of energy on the finish. Maybe missing a bit of persistence due to the growing season, but this is a very able La Forêt, and it should drink well for the next decade.

Broad nose and the opposite of ethereal on the palate. Finishes a little suddenly. (JR)

The 2021 Chablis La Fôret 1er Cru comes from 67-year-old vines that are used for Pinson's massal selection program. This has a clean and precise bouquet, lively with light granite and apple blossom scents. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, quite taut and fresh, lively with a subtle twist of bitter lemon lending tension on the finish. Worth seeking out.
