A big step up over the straight Gigondas, the 2013 Gigondas Font des Aieux sports a medium ruby color to go with Provencal notes of garrigue, bloody meat, ground pepper and earthy black cherry fruit. These flow nicely to a medium-bodied, character-filled Gigondas that has solid depth of fruit, light tannin and 4-5 years of prime drinking.

Dark ruby with a blackish tinge. Sweet and simple on the nose for now. Juicy and rather appealing in a very straightforward way. Lots of open appeal. And some freshness. All the elements are there for a good future. A meaty finish. (JR)
