Drinking brilliantly, the 2012 Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvée Spéciale Les Hautes Brusquières offers a healthy ruby hue with very little bricking, and although it’s certainly mature, it’s in the early half of its prime drink window. Ripe red and black fruits, spicy garrigue, hints of pepper, and a kiss of saddle leather, as well as dried flowers, all define the complex aromatics, and its medium to full bodied on the palate, with a silky beautifully balanced mouthfeel that just begs to be drunk. This beauty will continue to evolve gracefully over the coming decade and is well worth seeking out.

The 2012s show beautifully, and while I’ve had these wines numerous times, this was the best showing to date. The 2012 Chateauneuf du Pape les Hautes Brusquières Cuvee Spéciale is full-bodied, textured and downright sexy, with tons of cassis, black raspberry, garrigue and licorice aromas and flavors. I love its purity of fruit, and it’s impeccably balanced. Drink it anytime over the coming decade.

Vivid red berry and spice aromas pick up a smoky nuance with air, along with a hint of garrigue . Tight and focused on the palate, offering slightly dry-edged bitter cherry and redcurrant flavors. Finishes taut and gently tannic, leaving a cherry pit note behind. Clean and nervy in style but I'd like to have seen a little more give; this may yet come with some bottle age.
