Tasting notes
(75% grenache and 25% syrah): Inky ruby. Assertive aromas of blackberry, cherry pit and fresh flowers, with peppery spice and woodsmoke accents building with air. Juicy and precise on the palate, offering concentrated dark fruit flavors and a hint of licorice. Shows impressive energy and clarity for its heft and finishes sweet, sappy and very long. This is one of the most impressive wines of the appellation in 2011.

Also outstanding, with crunchy black cherry, licorice, ground herbs and saddle leather, the 2011 Vacqueyras Cuvee Lopy is medium-bodied, nicely concentrated (especially in the vintage) and has a focused, firm feel on the finish. It will develop nicely over the coming couple of years and have a decade of longevity. Drink 2014-2021. Importer: Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant, www.kermitlynch.com
Deep blackish crimson. Then rather oddly soft and unstructured. Pinched on the finish. Not quite enough relaxed fruit in the middle. (JR)
