Tasting notes
Sixty-percent of the excellent 2004 Macon-Milly-Lamartine Vieilles Vignes comes from the locally famous Clos du Four vineyard. (As of 2005 Cordier will be getting 50% of that vineyard’s fruit and will make a single vineyard wine; Dominique Lafon owns the other half.) It reveals aromatics of ripe mirabelle plums and spices. Seductive, enticing, and suave, this is a medium-bodied wine with terrific mouth-feel and yellow fruit flavors. Drink it over the next 2-3 years. Christophe Cordier, the young, super-dedicated vigneron behind the sky-rocketing quality of Domaine Cordier Pere et Fils, has recently begun this small negociant business. His business model calls for him to only acquire grapes (no must or wine) from producers and parcels he knows and follows. In one case, because the grower intended to harvest by machine, Cordier sent his own team in to pick the fruit when it was fully ripe. In addition, all Maison Cordier wines are fermented and aged in wood. Importer: Kysela Pere et Fils, Fran Kysela, Winchester, VA; tel. (540) 722-9228
