From a great vineyard close to Clos de Tart and Bonnes Mares, the 2018 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Ruchots was partially destemmed and brought up in a mix of older French oak, clay jars, and amphorae. Black raspberries, musky black cherries, forest floor, earth, spice, and orange rind notes all emerge from the glass, and it hits the palate with medium-bodied richness, polished yet building tannins, and a firm, focused, age-worthy style. This beauty needs bottle age, but it’s a gorgeous Morey-Saint-Denis that will be long-lived.
