Tasting notes
Full bottle 1,344 g. 40% Roussanne, 25% Clairette, 25% Grenache Blanc and 10% Marsanne. 3,600 bottles made. In their lavish literature, La Pèira make much of the fact that this is Clairette country and I hope to see more evidence of it in future though they originally planted the white Rhône grapes. Made from the hot lockdown vintage. Powerful floral and almond perfume without one variety dominating. Really very intense fruit with considerable structure and a little kumquat-peel grip on the end. I'd definitely serve this with food, a rich shellfish dish perhaps. There's even a little heat on the end (I'm tasting it at 13 °C) so I'd ideally cool it down a tad more. But it's not at all tired, despite its age. (JR)

The 2020 IGP Hérault Deusysls is a Roussanne-dominated white that includes 20% each of Clairette and Grenache Blanc, with 5% of Marsanne. It's a step up over the 2021 and has a riveting, medium to full-bodied, concentrated, focused style as well as awesome aromatics of apple blossom, stone fruits, and chalky minerality. With good acidity, plenty of density, and a great, great finish, this prodigious white will drink well for at least 3-5 years, and I certainly wouldn't be surprised to see it evolve well for even longer.
The 2020 Deusyls De La Peira showed brilliantly, with a ripe, sexy, voluptuous style delivering terrific purity and freshness in its peach, apricot, honeysuckle, and toasty aromas and flavors. This medium to full-bodied, layered, incredibly impressive white will shine on the dinner table over the coming 2-3 years, if not longer.
