Tasting notes
The super 1999 La Rosine Syrah VDP exhibits a deep ruby/purple color as well as abundant black raspberry and cassis fruit, and an attractive, plump finish. Stephane Ogier calls it tres gourmand (very hedonistic). It will drink well for 3-4 years. As with all Ogier wines, it was bottled with neither fining nor filtration. Michel Ogier and his son, Stephane, are producing spectacular wines. The only problem is that production is small. As I indicated last year, Ogier's 1999s are magical. Ruby-red. Deeply pitched aromas of black plum, pepper, fresh blood, leather and game; superripe yet still fresh. Sweet, fat and supple; unusually concentrated and powerful for this bottling. As aromatically interesting as a goodly percentage of Cote-Rotie bottlings.
