Score 87/100 · Drink 2006-2008, Robert Parker, Feb 2006

The surprisingly crisp, zesty 2003 Syrah La Rosine VdP has undoubtedly been given some acidification as evidenced by its tart edge. Earthy, herbal, black raspberry, cherry, and meat-like aromas and flavors emerge from this pleasant 2003. Drink it over the next 1-2 years before the fruit fades. Good bright, full red with ruby highlights. Expressive, ripe aromas of bacon fat, truffle, pepper and woodsmoke, with a hint of beefsteak tomato; showed roasted cherry as it opened in the glass. Flavors similar to the aromas. Fat, sweet syrah with a distinctly roasted aspect and considerable immediate appeal. Finishes with mocha and chocolate. This will be close to 13% alcohol, and really shows the heat of the summer.
