The 2021 Le Luc comes from a single vineyard picked several times. It underwent a triple sorting and includes 30% whole bunches, matured in 30% new oak. It is refined and pure on the nose: brambly black fruit, white pepper and a very subtle garrigue/lavender aroma. The palate is soft on the entry. It has good weight, is rounded in style, and perhaps a little reductive right on the finish. Moderate length. Give it a year in bottle.

Cranberries, boysenberries, mushrooms, cloves and sage on the nose with some grilled meat and smoke. It’s medium-bodied with very fine, tight tannins and bright acidity. Tightly wound. Wild, meaty and spicy character. Drink now or hold.

The 2019 Le Luc comes from 1.2 hectares of Pinot Noir planted on granite soils in 2013 in the Upper Hemel-en-Aarde. It has an aromatically pleasing bouquet of black cherries, mint and light potpourri scents, almost Volnay-like in style. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and a fine bead of acidity. A lilting Pinot Noir that delivers satisfying substance and grip on the finish. This is a very well crafted wine that will be difficult to resist in its youth. 3,554 bottles produced.

Medium-intensity garnet. (Writing these notes I thought this was a 2018!) Much sweeter, fresher, fruitier and more youthful on the nose than the 2017. Attractive perfume. Very nice balance between sweet raspberry fruit and acidity. Fine tannins suggest this wine has an exciting future. Neat finish. (JR)
