Weissenkirchen. The region's most famous vineyard – a 21.39-ha outcropping traced with terraces rising from near the water's edge to 361 m in elevation. Multitude of soils and exposures. Certified Sustainable Austria. Sweet peach, lime, exotic, giving. Juicy and fresh, tangy, lemon-limey acidity. Just want to drink gallons of this. The alcohol is on the high side but it's mainly perceptible in the wine's enthusiasm. And it maintains that enthusiasm through a very long finish. Bring it on! (TQT)

Full bottle 1,264 g. Lightly spritzig and more aromatic and zesty than the Achleiten Riesling Smaragd from the same year. Almost flirtatious despite the extra alcohol. Deepens towards the end of the palate. This would already comfortably accompany quite meaty dishes – such as the duck ragout planned for tonight? Excellent acidity. (JR)

The 2023 Grüner Veltliner Ried Achleiten Smaragd is one of three wines Bodensteiner makes from this site. This wine is picked on either side of the Achleiten Tor, across twenty terraces each, on a mix of gneiss, Alpine deposits and amphibolite from vines planted in the 1950s. The shy nose gives a touch of citrus, slightly obscured by gently stony smoke. The palate is immediately graceful, slender and almost bony. The fine structure is clothed in translucent tangerine flavors, is juicy and friendly but graceful, and has terrific zestiness. Subtle spice on the nose only comes with more air. The 2023 is fine but also mild. (Dry)
