The 2021 Vosne-Romanée Les Beaux Monts 1er Cru has a gorgeous bouquet that leaps from the glass: red cherries, wild strawberry and crushed stone scents with rose petal aromas emerging with aeration. Wonderful delineation and clever use of oak. The palate is well balanced with finely tuned tannins, perfectly judged acidity and neatly integrated oak. Good substance, rather backward on the black pepper-infused finish, but I can see this evolving well in bottle. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2021 Vosne-Romanée Les Beaux Monts 1er Cru offers red plum, dark chocolate and light orange blossom scents on the nose, maybe just missing a little definition compared to other cuvées at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, touches of graphite and black pepper, cohesive but missing just a touch of complexity on the finish. Give it a four or five years in bottle.
About the producer
Domaine Georges Noëllat, based in the village of Vosne-Romanée is today run by Maxime Cheurlin. Cheurlin took over the domaine in 2010 – aged just 20 – and has since transformed its reputation as one of the finest Burgundy wine producers.
