The NV Grand Cru (base 2022) is 80% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Noir from Le Mesnil and Puisieulx, respectively. Dense and quite powerful, the 2022 offers quite a bit of textural richness. Tropical overtones add an exotic flair while also recalling the solar intensity of a year marked by heat and drought. I find it a bit reduced and therefore suggest readers open the wine as far in advance as possible. Hints of passion fruit, coconut, hazelnut and dried flowers linger. Dosage is 2.5 grams per liter. Disgorged: October 2025.

La Closerie’s NV Champagne Grand Cru (2020), disgorged in October 2022 with a dosage of 2.5 grams per liter, has matured very well. A 50/50 blend of Chardonnay from Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Pinot Noir from Puisieulx (purchased from another grower), it opens with a bouquet of red apple, dried flowers and toasted brioche. On the palate, it is medium- to full-bodied, bright and precise and laden with racy acids, though marginally less concentrated than its successor. Still, it offers attractively saline finish of notable persistence.

A new bottling from Prévost debuts with the NV Extra Brut Champagne Grand Cru, a wine produced from grapes purchased from sources that emphasize cultivated soils, low yields and full ripeness (with the date of harvest being determined in consultation with Prévost). Bursting from the glass with aromas of pear, fresh bread, wheat toast, smoke and orange oil, it's full-bodied, ample and saline, with bright acids and a long, mineral finish. It's a superb, rather Burgundian-styled wine that will delight wine lovers who have previously only experienced Prévost's talents as applied to Pinot Meunier.
