Tasting notes
The 2021 Beaune Epenottes 1er Cru has an attractive nose with a subtle stem addition lending a little sous-bois character that complements the red berry fruit. It has more precision and mineralité compared to its peers. The palate is lithe and harmonious on the entry with pure red berry fruit, white pepper and fine grip on the finish. Overall, this is a classy Beaune 1er Cru and deserves a hearty round of applause in the context of the challenging growing season. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2021 Beaune Les Epenottes 1er Cru, which comes from leased vines, was unaffected by frost. It has a bright and vibrant nose with dark berry fruit and a light sea spray tincture. The palate is medium-bodied with bright acidity, citrus, cranberry and raspberry fruit. This is very pretty and absolutely delicious.
The 2021 Beaune 1er Cru Les Epenottes reveals aromas of dark berries, orange zest, sweet spices and peony, followed by a medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy palate that's textural and succulent, with a generous core of fruit and little perceptible tannin to impede near-term pleasure.
About the producer

Having established Domaine des Comtes Lafon as one of the finest addresses in Burgundy, Dominique Lafon set up an eponymous négociant business in 2008. The vines are all farmed by the Lafon team and the wines generally leaner than those of Comtes Lafon, with less new oak.
