The 1973 Clos de Tart Grand Cru, like the 1974, turns out to be a real surprise. It is more mature in color than the succeeding vintage, with a wide brick/tawny rim. Yet the bouquet reveals a lovely, harmonious bouquet of red cherry, blood orange and pressed flowers. The palate is tart and not deep, yet conveys a sense of focus, while the finish is almost penetrating in attack. A dash of Moroccan spice emerges toward the finish. Delightful! Tasted at the Clos de Tart vertical at Ten Trinity in London.

Bright foxy red, but pale. Quite old and decayed on the nose. Awfully tart (as opposed to tarty) and over the hill. Drying out. (JR)
About the producer
Clos de Tart is the largest Grand Cru monopole site in the Côte d’Or. Wine has been produced from this vineyard for over 900 years and it remains one of Burgundy’s top Pinot Noirs.
