The medium to dark amber-colored 1999 Trockenbeerenauslese No 3 Chardonnay / Welschriesling Nouvelle Vague (Library Release 2024) opens with a clear and elegant bouquet of orange and oaky aromas intermingled with autumn leaf and mushroom but also rose petal and caramel. Vivacious and pure on the palate, this is a rich, elegant and finessed, fresh and vital TBA with a lighter and refreshing as well as savory finish. 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in May 2024.

What an amazing nose of caramel and molasses this great Austrian TBA has. Terrific concentration of toasted nuts, caramel and black tea character, but also a wonderful vitality for 25 years of age. There’s also a note that reminds me of 200- and 300-year-old leather-bound books, which makes this even more fascinating. Fabulous balance at the extremely long, refined finish. Drink or hold.
