Tasting notes
The 2023 Mâcon-Pierreclos Lieu Secret comes from three plots around Chavigne. It has a terse, petrichor-scented bouquet that is almost Chablis-like. The palate is taut and fresh, with more weight than some of Verget's other cuvées and a judicious touch of white pepper. The 2023 shows some reduction on the pithy finish. Very fine, but be patient.

From vines that touch the Chavigne vineyard of Domaine Guffens-Heynen but, as they are not owned by the domaine (though the domaine picks all the grapes), it is bottled under the Verget label. Jean-Marie Guffens prefers to keep the grape source of this wine a secret, hence the name. Matured in oak barrels of which 25% are new. Light putty nose. Polished tannins and flavours of confit citrus peel. Good undertow. (JR)
Aromas of pear, sweet citrus fruit, pastry cream and toasty new oak introduce the 2023 Mâcon-Pierreclos Lieu Sécret, a medium to full-bodied, deep and satiny wine that's layered and fleshy, concluding with a long finish. It's another home run for this cuvée.
