Tasting notes
The NV (2023) Extra-Brut Garennes is a blend of vintages 2023 back to 2013. Soft and open-knit, the Garennes caresses the palate with hints of orchard fruit, chamomile, dried flowers and spice. The lifted, ethereal style is quite attractive. This is the most open-knit of Vincent Laval's new releases. I would give it a bit of aeration. This release was aged for 11 months in French oak, with some lees-stirring. Dosage is 1 gram per liter. Disgorged: November 2025.

Disgorged in June 2024 with a dosage of one gram per liter, Laval’s latest release of the NV Extra Brut Les Garennes is based on the 2022 vintage, augmented by a 40% contribution from a perpetual reserve initiated in 2013. Composed primarily of Pinot Meunier, with approximately 20% Pinot Noir, derived from Chambrecy, Damery, Cumières and Hautvillers, it opens with an aromatic profile of pear, citrus zest and dried flowers, though this is slightly marred by a trace of volatile acidity that makes its presence known on the nose. On the palate, it is medium- to full-bodied, driven by bright acidity and culminating in a saline, bone-dry finish.
