The 2016 Noaillac is evolving beautifully, and consumers who purchased this wine for a pittance must be pleased. Exhibiting aromas of sweet cassis, licorice, loamy soil, mint and tobacco leaf, it's medium-bodied, supple and lively, with a succulent core of fruit, powdery tannins and a vibrant finish.

Quite green with a hint of walnut, but some nice blackcurrants. Medium-bodied with a juicy entry, but the rather sappy finish means it needs country cooking to show its best. A blend of 55 per cent merlot, 40 per cent cabernet sauvignon and five per cent petit verdot.
The 2016 Noaillac has quite a powerful bouquet with savoury/meaty black fruit that displays a little too much of oak at the moment. The palate is grippy and forward, again the oak quite dominant (more so than older vintages that I have tasted). Hopefully everything will meld together with time. Tasted at the Cru Bourgeois tasting in London.
55% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot. Deep crimson. Peppery cassis nose with an inviting cedary freshness. Lively and dry textured. Balanced, subtle and persistent. (JH)
