Score 86-88/100 · Drink 2023-2029, Neal Martin, Dec 2020
The 2019 Côtes de Nuits Villages Rouge comes from three climats close to Clos de la Maréchale and is aged in 50% new oak, using 30% 400-liter barrels and the remainder in regular pièces . It has a clean, delineated bouquet of red cherries, boysenberry and light figgy aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy, quite grippy tannins. It just loses its way toward the finish, which feels a little smudged and heady (although it is under 14° degrees). Not bad, but could be better.
