The 2017 Bienvenue-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru has a well-defined and quite complex bouquet, revealing touches of almond and brioche while delivering plenty of mineralité and focus. The palate is fresh and vibrant with crisp acidity, the flavors of lime and green apples segueing into more orange zest notes toward the tensile finish. This has enormous potential. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting in Savigny-lès-Beaune.

The 2017 Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru wafts from the glass with aromas of orange oil, peach and pear, complemented by scents of toasted nuts, freshly baked bread and honeycomb. Full-bodied, multidimensional and textural, it's a broad-shouldered, muscular Bienvenues that's powerful and concentrated, with lively girdling acids and a long, expansive finish. This is another brilliant wine from the Bachelet brothers that will be worth special effort to seek out.

The 2017 Bienvenue-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru comes from a single parcel planted around 40 years ago. It has a very composed, mineral-driven bouquet with flecks of chalk dust and orange blossom that gain momentum with each swirl of the glass. The palate is beautifully balanced with a wonderful line of acidity, very composed and harmonious with hints of apricot and orange pith. There is 100% new oak here, so there is just a slight creaminess towards the finish, but that new wood is easily soaked up by the concentration in this Grand Cru. Superb. Just two barrels produced.
