Pale, bright red. Round, fruity nose. Utter pleasure bomb. Nothing overdone and already accessible. Such a joy. There is a fine skein of acidity wound round the opulent fruit so, although you could already enjoy this, I suspect it will live on pretty well. No mass but extremely pretty and satisfying. (JR)

Bright cherry red. Rich and smooth. Very flattering – sweet. A real charmer from a not well-known vineyard. Relatively GV for this vintage. For fairly early drinking. (JR)

(these 50-year-old vines yielded more than 40 hectoliters per hectare in 2016 as they were unaffected by the frost): Healthy medium red. Classy scents of dark raspberry, spices, menthol and violet show a positive medicinal restraint. A step up in density and saline minerality over the foregoing samples, with harmonious acidity and firm dusty tannins giving this wine a more classical aspect. Finishes with excellent salty persistence and a lively herbal nuance.

The 2016 Aloxe-Corton 1er Cru Les Fournières, matured in one-third new oak, has a harmonious and quite sensual bouquet with redcurrant and raspberry fruit, fine undergrowth, almost moss-like aromas that lend this real character while maintaining delineation. The palate is very well balanced with supple tannin, smooth in texture with orange pith and saline notes infusing the vibrant red fruit that support a long and tender finish. This is another impressive wine from Tollot-Beaut, and one of the finest wines that I encountered from this appellation in 2016.
