Cheese aromas – this is very much in the mature spectrum. But the palate is still alive and alert, with soft but persistent fizz. This has all the mystical complexity of mature wine. It's such a dramatically different experience to the younger wines such as the extrovert 2012, but it is a beautiful example of great old champagne, a retired ballerina that is still graceful and alluring. Deep gold. Florally scented and opulently styled. But with time in the glass a very light TCA became evident in a light scent of mouldy leaves. I am scoring it as though there were no TCA. (JR)
Very deep gold. Rich nose. Very long and, magically, still fresh. No obvious oak. Hugely satisfying. (JR)
Super, lovely developed nose. Succulent and bready with very fresh apple fruit. Long – but finite, and not as impressive as the Dom Pérignon 1990 served alongside. (RH)
