Score 92/100 · Drink 2025-2038, Neal Martin, Nov 2023

The 2020 Main Road & Dignity has a well-defined bouquet, nicely focused with mainly black fruit, loam, and cedar, with touches of mint. Very fine focus here. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins. Perhaps there is a little more nervosité than the 2019, more citrus-drive, fresh with cedar and tobacco-infused black fruit towards the finish. Maybe more forward and expressive than the previous vintage, this will be very seductive from the outset.

100% Cabernet Sauvignon grown on granite at 850 ft, planted 1998. Bordeaux oak barrels, 225-litre, 70% of which average 4th fill, 30% new. 23 months in barrel, sur lie, followed by 3 months in stainless-steel tank and then 18 months in bottle. No fining. Deep, lustrous crimson. Quite a strong pyrazine character. Not as convincing as the Pinot 2021 from this producer but a serious, well-constructed wine. Slightly drying finish. (JR)
