Score 88/100 · Drink 2018-2024, William Kelley, Wine Advocate, Aug 2018

The 2016 Mâcon-Uchizy Les Maranches reveals aromas of lemon oil, dried white flowers, beeswax and toasted hazelnuts, framed by light reduction. On the palate, it's medium-bodied, with a glossy, expansive attack and one of the most giving, open-knit profiles of any wine in the cellar, concluding with a chalky finish. There's some muscaté Chardonnay planted here, but its influence is less apparent today than it was six or seven months ago when I last tasted it.

(12.9% alcohol; all in foudre ; from young, south-facing vines at low altitude on active calcaire ; the lowest in acidity of these 2016s as the vineyard is located close to the Saône): Bright medium yellow. Slightly liqueur-like aromas of pear drop and white flowers. Fat, supple and sweet, offering good concentration but only moderate nuance and grip to its flavors of citrus fruits and white flowers. I'd enjoy this wine on the young side.
