Tasting notes
The 2019 Beaune Les Epenottes 1er Cru has a pretty nose, slightly leafy in style, with red cherries, wild strawberry fruit and a soupçon of rusticity. The palate is medium-bodied, with supple tannins and quite noticeable acidity leading to a sapid, if rather simplistic, slightly savory finish. Fine, but I wonder if it will turn into anything more interesting? This does gain some precision after 10 minutes in the glass, so I will keep the faith. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

From another parcel where Lafon is responsible (since 2010) for the viticulture and purchases the resulting grapes, the 2019 Beaune 1er Cru Les Epenottes exhibits notes of cherries, sweet berries, orange oil and raw cocoa. Medium to full-bodied, lively and fine-boned, with a pretty core of fruit and ripe, powdery tannins, this is shaping up nicely.
About the producer

Having established Domaine des Comtes Lafon as one of the finest addresses in Burgundy, Dominique Lafon set up an eponymous négociant business in 2008. The vines are all farmed by the Lafon team and the wines generally leaner than those of Comtes Lafon, with less new oak.
