Score 91+/100 · Drink 2024-2036, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Mar 2015

Bright medium red. Piquant, high-pitched aromas of raspberry, strawberry, rose petal and crushed stone, plus a slightly intrusive oaky quality. Dense, savory and seamless but at the same time quite dry and serious, showing a distinctly saline minerality and excellent energy to its sappy flavors of berries, stone and underbrush. A powerful expression of soil, finishing with a firm spine of noble tannins and mounting perfume. There's something Musigny-like about this uncompromisingly dry wine, which may ultimately merit an even higher score if it successfully absorbs its oak element.

(Faiveley's vines touch the Musigny of Domaine Prieur; in fact, the two holdings were planted at the same time about 50 years ago by two growers using the same plant material, according to Bernard Hervet): Medium red. Explosive perfume of raspberry, strawberry, crushed stone and flowers; minerally and pungent. Then densely packed and suave in the mouth, showing almost painful energy and grip today. I found it hard to scrape this penetrating wine off my palate. Finishes with outstanding length and lift, the firm tannins perfectly buffered by the wine's serious extract.
