81% Grenache, 19% Mourvèdre. It's on the soupy side, with lots of extraction and heft. More like Châteauneuf than Gigondas, perhaps, if you wanted to split hairs. The alcohol has definite burn on the finish. (RH)

Deep bright-rimmed ruby. Highly perfumed, spice- and mineral-accented red and blue fruits, candied flowers and a suggestion of incense on the incisive nose. Stains the palate with sweet raspberry, cherry and boysenberry flavors that take on succulent herb and exotic spice nuances in the midpalate. The extremely long, focused finish features sneaky tannins and an emphatic echo of sappy red fruits and floral pastilles.

Deeply colored, the 2016 Gigondas La Font De Tonin is a blend of 81% Grenache and 19% Mourvèdre that was brought up mostly in tank. It has a ripe, opulent yet balanced style to go with loads of dark fruits, leafy herbs, and pepper. With medium to full body, a rounded, sexy texture, and building tannin, it's another smoking good wine from this estate.

A blend of 81% Grenache and 19% Mourvèdre, all matured in barrels (25% new), the 2016 Gigondas la Font de Tonin is a plush, hedonistic expression of Gigondas. Baking spices accent raspberry and cherry fruit in this full-bodied, decadent wine that's probably best enjoyed in its first decade. Supple, plummy and slightly warm, but in a comforting sort of way, it finishes harmoniously and long.
