In the same ballpark at the 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape, yet just marginally more fresh and concentrated, the 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee des Felix gives up ample dark fruits, peppery herbs, creosote and licorice notes in a medium-bodied, balanced, classical style. The traditional cuvee has more charm at present, but this should open up more with another year or two in bottle. Still, the classic cuvee is the sure bet.

A quintessential, traditional Châteauneuf-du-Pape that is drinking beautifully, the 2006 Domaine Bois de Boursan Cuvée des Félix boasts complex, meaty aromas of dried garrigue, meat juice, iron, sandalwood, and assorted red and black fruits on the nose. Perfumed and pretty, yet still showing the savory, masculine slant that this cuvee always seems to posses, this hits the palate with a full-bodied, silky mouth feel, beautiful purity of fruit, and a classically styled, dry finish that has solid length and focus. While I’ve no doubt it will continue to show well for another decade or more, I see no need to hold off. Readers the gravitate towards the more traditional, savory style of Châteauneuf-du-Pape should not miss this wine.

Very sweetly and intensely perfumed. Violets and cinammon over dark ripe fruit. Lovely liquid freshness – tannins are dry but fine and fluid. Very good – almost delicate on the finish even though it is a big wine. (JH)

Ruby-red. Wild, funky and floral on the nose, offering exotic red berry, incense and dried lavender scents underscored by suave minerality. Extremely rich, with deep red and dark berry liqueur flavors complemented by smoked meat, anise and floral pastille. Reminds me of a Bonneau wine in its borderline port-like intensity and unlikely freshness. Singular and compelling.
