Tasting notes
The 2018 Viré-Clessé opens in the glass with notes of citrus oil, fresh peach, blanched almonds and hints of orange blossom. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and incisive, it's fleshy and layered, with a bright spine of acidity and a pretty core of fruit.

The 2018 Vire-Clessé was bottled a little later than Lafon’s other Mâconnais wines. It has a delightful seashell bouquet that opens with joie-de-vivre given a modest swirling. The palate is harmonious and candied on the entry, offering orange zest and light pineapple notes and pretty hints of white peach toward the finish. Irresistible.
Includes some of a good clone of Chardonnay Musqué. They’ve had the vines since 2009 – 6 ha (15 acres). Best corners of the appellation. Lots of old vines. 1 ha had to be uprooted. One-third in foudre and two-thirds in demi-muids. Bottled. Deep and ripe in lemon and orange citrus. Lots of fruit thought not quite as intense as the Clos de la Crochette in this vintage. Broad and spicy, just a little less intense on the mid palate. (JH)
