Tasting notes
I guessed the first blind white correctly, the spectacular 2016 Arbois Pupillin Savagnin, from a cooler year. It has lovely reduction from the time it has spent in bottle, plus contained ripeness and alcohol. The palate reveals pungent flavors and is very vibrant, with a lively, almost effervescent mineral mouthfeel. It is very clean, precise and detailed with incredible freshness. It has to be among the finest young vintages for Savagnin. I don't want to brag about it, but I read my note from 2019 on this wine, and it is spot-on!

The 2016 Savagnin Arbois-Pupillin (yellow wax) is a wine of exceptional character. It opens with a complex bouquet of crushed rocks, baked apple and chamomile, intertwined with hints of toasted bread, dried lemon zest and savory chicken broth. The palate is nothing short of breathtaking, with its steely acidity and signature austerity creating a structure that is both taut and thrilling. The 2016 is a wine of undeniable pedigree—a testament to the heights Savagnin can reach in the right hands. Lot 25-10-2018.
