FINE+RARE, Jun 2023

The 2020 Beaune Célébration Premier Cru is a blend of 17 different Premier Crus Louis Jadot owns in the Beaune appellation. The wine has a mellow but complex nose when coaxed from the glass. High-quality oak brings peppery, lightly toasted notes. These meld beautifully with darker strawberry fruits, violet and floral rose notes and more savoury aniseed and earthy aromas. The palate is fulsome and rich in bramble fruit. The soft, juicy moderate tannins add to the plush mid palate and full body of fruit in this concentrated Pinot Noir.  The richness of the palate is nicely balanced with a tarter sour fruit note and good acidity. More than a sum of its parts, this is a weighty and substantial Pinot Noir with dark chocolate, cassis and blackberry fruit flavours that sustain on an impressively long finish.

A very ripe nose yet still reasonably fresh nose combines notes of spice, plum, earth and a floral top note. The supple, round and seductively textured medium weight flavors possess a caressing mouthfeel that contrasts somewhat with the firm and relatively powerful finish. This could use more depth though it seems reasonably clear that the underlying material is present such that more will almost certainly develop if given a chance.

There are some 3,500 cases of the 2020 Beaune 1er Cru Célébration (Maison Louis Jadot), a medium to full-bodied, fleshy and seamless wine evocative of smoky berries, spices and licorice, framed by creamy new oak. More polished and elegant than the muscular 2018, the last rendition of this bottling (which blends more than a dozen of Beaune's premiers crus), it will offer a broad drinking window.
