Tasting notes
The old vine cuvée is the 2020 Gigondas Ventabren, which is always 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and the rest Cinsault that's not destemmed and is brought up in older barrels. It exhibits a great nose of black cherry liqueur, framboise, sappy garigue, and flowers. These carry to a medium to full-bodied, layered, seamless 2020 with ultra-fine tannins and a great finish. It's a head-turning Gigondas to enjoy over the coming 10-15 years.

Bright violet color. A deeply perfumed bouquet evokes ripe cherry and blackberry, violet and vanilla, with woodsmoke and baking spice notes in the background. Broad and weighty in style, offering dark fruit preserve, licorice and mocha flavors and a spicy touch of cracked pepper. In a substantial and extroverted style, finishing long and smoky, with building tannins and repeating dark fruit notes. I suspect that some will prefer the classic bottling in this vintage, for its vibrancy. Those who like their Gigondas brawny will likely much prefer this one; my score reflects how I think the wine will turn out after some patience.
