Score 89/100 · Drink 2025-2035, Neal Martin, Oct 2025
The 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet La Maltroie 1er Cru is rather heavy-handed with the oak compared to its peers—a little buttery in style, although it does manage to retain delineation. The palate is fresh on the entry with a pleasant tanginess. Fine weight, quite sharp on the finish, perhaps just missing the grace of the best Chassagne 1er Crus in this vintage. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

Exhibiting aromas of pear, fresh mint, orange oil and clear honey, the 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Maltroie is medium to full-bodied, fleshy and giving, with a sweet core of fruit and an open-knit profile, concluding with a nutmeg-inflected finish.
