The 1951 Rivesaltes had a similar color to the 1953, since it also came from barrel. This will be bottled in September 2017. I find that the aromatics here have a little more intent and vigor than the 1953: brown spices and a touch of autumn leaf mixed with fennel and broom. The palate is nicely balanced with a soft texture and a little more sucrosity than other coeval Rivesaltes, and perhaps that just detracts slightly from the complexity on the finish. Tasted June 2017.

Cask sample. Mainly Grenache Noir. Blackish khaki tawny. Yellow rim. Not as clean and fresh as some on the nose and then lots of sweetness on the palate. Syrup of figs. A bit short. (JR)
