Musty, dusty, fusty nose yet the palate has retained freshness. Creamy milk-chocolate flavours, long and baked and full of rancio complexity. (RH)

The 1955 Rivesaltes from Philippe Gayral's new find, Domaine La Sobilane, has a slightly more conservative bouquet compared to other vintages, touches of marzipan and crème brûlée infusing the walnut and hazelnut aromas. The palate is viscous on the entry, honeyed in texture, very cohesive with chocolate, walnut and vanilla extract on the seductive finish. This is very fine.

Bottled 2015. Deep tawny. Orange tones. Pretty sweet and only just not sickly. Hint of dried peel. Overall very rewarding. (JR)
