Score 88-90/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Jan 2016

Bright medium red. Slight medicinal cast to the aromas of black cherry, menthol, minerals and spices. Supple, pliant and surprisingly ripe in the mouth, showing good juicy lift to its red cherry and spice flavors. Broadens out on the back end, finishing with supple tannins. Production here was just 12 hectoliters per hectare, according to Barnier.

The 2014 Beaune 1er Cru Boucherottes has a ripe bouquet with candied orange peel infusing the vibrant red cherry and strawberry fruit. There is something playful about these aromatics. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannins, dense and more compact than the Couchereaux, quite saline on the finish with good length and persistence. Superb.
