Tasting notes
92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Verdot. 30 months in barriques. Why so long? Keith Mugford says he was inspired by Ch Lafite, but claims they are no longer trying to copy Bordeaux but are proud of their own style of Cabernet. He experimented with different ageing periods from 1996. Houghton clones came from South Africa; often pretty and violets/floral. ‘2018 is like the great 2001 vintage.’ Blackish crimson. Concentrated, already intense nose. Notably smooth tannins until the very end of the palate when they really make their impact. A saline note on the end. Just a little alcohol there too. (JR)

Fragrant nose of lavender, blackberry leaves, blackcurrants, cloves, vanilla and mint chocolate. It’s full-bodied with firm, seamless tannins and vibrant acidity. Excellent structure and balance. Delicious already, but excellent cellaring potential. Drink or hold. Screw cap.
Full bottle 1,260 g. Mid crimson. Lightly leafy nose. Composed sweet fruit on the front palate and some light tannin but the elements are not yet knit. This is still a tad simple. (JR)
Minty notes accent mixed red and black berries on the nose of the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon. Intense cassis and raspberry flavors dominate this medium to full-bodied red, framed by ample but ripe, silky tannins and crisp acids. With its intensity and length, it seems sure to age well for up to two decades.
