The 2017 Beaune Les Sizies 1er Cru, which is due to be bottled before Christmas 2018 and contains a little less new oak than other crus, has a well defined and vibrant red cherry and wild strawberry scented bouquet. The palate is well balanced with supple tannin, ripe dark cherry and blackberry fruit leading to a nicely structured, graphite-tinged finish that lingers in the mouth. Recommended.

Aromas of raspberry, cherries and dried herbs introduce the 2017 Beaune 1er Cru Les Sizies, a medium-bodied, chalky wine with a delicate core of tangy fruit and a moderately intense finish. A touch of asperity marks it out as one of de Montille's less successful 2017s, though it may well flesh out in bottle.

An agreeably free and pure nose reflects notes of violet, plum and dark raspberry along with a whiff of newly turned earth. There is good richness to the generously proportioned middle weight flavors that evidence a subtle minerality on the clean, dusty and sneaky long finish. This moderately firm effort will need at least a few years to unwind but 8 to 10 years should be sufficient to see it at its best.
