Score 92/100 · Drink 2006-2018, Robert Parker, Feb 2006

Darker ruby in color than the regular bottling, the 2003 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Alexis Establet, which is primarily Grenache aged in foudres with a touch of some smaller old barrels, displays distinctive allspice and cinnamon notes intermixed with ground pepper, garrigue, kirsch liqueur, plum, and even some blacker fruits. The wine is full-bodied, broad, and expansive, with a huge mouthfeel, silky tannins, and a stunningly long finish. It is hard to resist but should drink well for 10-12 years. Medium red. Explosively aromatic nose offers soaring floral notes of rose, lavender and magnolia along with ripe blackberry and cherry tones. Lush and supple, with ripe, sweet cherry and red plum flavors that build and gain weight as the wine blossoms in the glass. The finish is impressively elegant and silky, with well-managed tannins and superb depth. One of the stars of my tastings in the south.
