Tasting notes
There's a single large-format barrel of the 2020 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaumonts this year, so the wine won't be easy to find; but any readers lucky enough to be allocated a bottle or two shouldn't hesitate. Unwinding in the glass with aromas of exotic spices, rose petals, wild berries and potpourri, it's medium to full-bodied, ample and perfumed, with terrific depth at the core, lively acids and a long, expansive finish.

There is just one new 350-litre barrel of the 2020 Vosne-Romanée Les Beaux Monts 1er Cru this year. The wood does slightly dominate the aromatics here, though there is sufficient fruit to soak that up with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fresh red berry fruit, of course, some new wood here, but give it 4-5 years in bottle and it should all integrate nicely. Sophisticated and thought-provoking (and quite delicious).
Warmest climat of the domaine; cask sample. Mid cherry; substantial matière and a note of iron. Deep red and black fruits. Rich. Vosne refinement and intensity. (MH)
