Tasting notes
A classic, impressive Médoc with has lots to love, the deep ruby-hued 2019 Château Rollan De By offers up textbook Bordeaux notes of darker currants, leafy herbs, damp earth, and cedar pencil. With medium-bodied richness and a round, mouth-filling texture, it has the balance and structure to keep for 10-15 years.

From a 300-hectare estate in the northern Médoc, the 2019 Rollan de By offers up aromas of minty berry fruit, loamy soil, plums and spices. Medium to full-bodied, with a sweet core of fruit, lively acids and ripe, powdery tannins, it's a very creditable effort, especially when one considers the 500,000-bottle production and decidedly modest price point. It's a Merlot-dominant blend that's aged one-third in new oak, one-third in once-used barrels and one-third in tank for freshness.
The 2019 Rollan de By has a fragrant bouquet of light brambly red berry fruit, cedar and mint aromas. The palate is medium-bodied, fleshy and nicely balanced, with sappy red fruit and a smooth if not complex finish. Enjoy this over the next decade.
The 2019 Rollan de By has turned out nicely. Savory, spiced aromatics give the 2019 lovely nuance to match its mid-weight personality. There's good depth too, it just needs time to emerge. Dark blue/black fruit, lavender, licorice and dried herbs linger. The 2019 is terrific.
