The 2011 Château de Fargues has a touch of chlorine on the nose, well defined with honey and saffron aromas. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, quite fresh and zesty, good tension, lightly spiced on the finish with a long ginger-tinged aftertaste, this should age well over the next 20 years. Tasted blind at the annual 10-Year-On tasting.

Tasted blind. First bottle TCA. Clean and fresh on the nose. Quite racy and lifted without too much sugar. Sleek, confident and appetising. (JR)

A lot of fruit flies in 2011 which led to the loss of 50% of the potential harvest. There was no 2012. 2013 is being bottled now. Pale to mid gold. Strong almonds and botrytis on the nose. Lots of freshness and lots of marzipan sweetness. Very marked acidity. Undertow of burnished sweetness. Broad on the palate but with great lift and very slight lactones . Lively lift and great vitality. (JR)

Tasted blind at the Sauternes 2011 horizontal tasting. The Château de Fargues 2011 has a slightly disjointed nose at first, although with aeration it appears to coalesce with scents of honey, almond shavings, an exotic hint of marzipan and just a touch of mandarin. The palate is well balanced with a keen line of acidity, well balanced and poised with a noticeable spicy finish that just tapers in slightly, yet there is genuine persistence and breeding here.

GP-accueil
de Fargues

Owned by the Lur-Saluces family (which also previously owned Ch. d’Yquem) since 1472, Ch. de Fargues benefited from similar care and attention. The resulting wines are impressive and – unlike most in the region which are now offered en primeur – only released three years after the vintage.
