Dujac’s 2005 Vosne-Romanée Aux Malconsorts is just entering the early part of its drinking window, although it could use another few years to soften a bit further. Intense, bold and totally sensual, the 2005 is beautifully centered, with a poised core of fruit and plenty of floral and spice overtones that add nuance. All those elements build to a crescendo of flavors and textures that is quite impressive. Even so, my impression is that the wine has not yet fully arrived at its most expressive point. I very much like the wine’s breadth, volume and personality.

Deep red. Rich, nuanced nose offers soil-inflected notes of raspberry, mocha, underbrush and smoked meat. Large-scaled, sweet and lush; broader and plumper than the Beaux-Monts but less harmonious today and in need of patience. I find this fatter than it was from barrel a year ago, in fact almost heavy for a Dujac wine, with less detail and sap than it displayed last year. But this big boy showcases the breadth of this vintage. Finishes with lush tannins and lingering flavors of red fruits and spices.

Scented, savoury and lovely. Thoroughbred stuff – real race and breed. Tight knit, lacy, very dense but not hevy. Should be great eventually. Great lift. (JR)
