Tasting notes
Deep ruby. The nose highlights powerful, smoke-tinged cherry-cola, red berry liqueur and licorice scents, along with succulent herbs and lavender suggestions. Offers fleshy black raspberry and kirsch flavors that are energized by a spicy white pepper flourish. Subtle tannins frame a very long, spicy finish that echoes the cherry and herb notes.

I thought the 2019 Gigondas was gorgeous, with a rich, medium to full-bodied, concentrated style as well as classic Saint Cosme ground pepper, mineral, cured meats, and assorted red and black fruits. It’s a powerful, concentrated base cuvée with the mid-palate and structure to evolve for 15-20 years.
70% Grenache, 15% Mourvèdre, 14% Syrah, 1% Cinsault. Organic. Aged 20% in new oak, 50% in used oak of different ages and 30% in concrete tank. Cask sample. Tasted blind. A very elegant palate that is dominated by extremely fine, detailed and precise tannins. Dark fruit with a fig note and plenty of spiced black pepper and a dense mouthfeel. This is a wine about depth, texture and dimension over fruit character. (AC)
