The 2019 Blason de l'Evangile is a charming, supple wine bursting with aromas of sweet cherries and berries, deftly framed by creamy new oak. Medium to full-bodied, round and giving, this generous expression of ripe, sun-kissed Merlot (complemented by a mere 5% of Cabernet Franc) is already drinking well.

The 2019 Blason de l’Evangile, which includes 5% Cabernet Franc and was matured in one-year-old barrels, has a fragrant nose of ripe black cherries, iodine and light violet notes, just missing a little personality. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent tannins and a dash of balsamic, but it lacks complexity and feels rather monotone on the finish. This doesn’t really compel me back for another sip.
The 2019 Blason de L'Évangile is an attractive, easygoing wine to drink now and over the next few years, maximum. Red/purplish fruit, flowers and mint are nicely delineated, but ultimately the 2019 lacks depth and complexity, even for a second wine. Bitter tannins on the finish are impossible to ignore. I imagine the team at L'Évangile will be thrilled to have this vintage in the rear view mirror.
