The 2013 Corton Clos du Roi Grand Cru comes from a parcel at the top of the vineyard. It has a somewhat airy, cold stone bouquet that is perhaps less expressive than the Corton-Bressandes at this early juncture. The palate is medium-bodied, the tannins a little chewier than the aforementioned Bressandes, with a linear, marine-influenced, very minerally finish that feels a little abrupt. Give this a couple of years in bottle and hopefully it will achieve the same class as the Corton-Bressandes.

Bright red. Sexy, high-toned aromas of strawberry, raspberry, crushed-stone minerality, rose petal and truffle, complicated by an exotic suggestion of white fruits (Claude de Nicolay compared it to a riesling!). Wonderfully perfumed and stylish, with bright acidity giving definition and lift to the strawberry and rose petal flavors, with the exotic quality carrying through in the mouth. More youthfully imploded than the Bressandes, but the tannins arrive late, allowing the wine's perfume to fill the mouth and linger.
